Formed in 1999, Rome Area Writers started out with the motto “Writers helping writers,” and we have held to that mission ever since.
Our group has its origins in a writing class at Berry College, and under the leadership of Drs. Thad Matheny and Ralph Hesler, Rome Area Writers has since developed into a vibrant part of the Rome and Floyd County creative community.
Rome Area Writers meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rome/Floyd County Library. All our meetings are open to the public, and membership is $25 per year. Our members enjoy miniature workshops, group readings, guest speakers, and two active critique groups filled with writers actively working toward publishing. We work with the greater Rome artistic community to promote the arts and foster a sense of camaraderie among all creatives.
Every year we publish the Lavender Mountain Anthology to highlight the work of RAW members, which spans all genres from fiction to memoir and poetry to plays. Rome Area Writers is a non-profit organization and we are affiliated with the Rome Area Council for the Arts (RACA).
We hope you will visit our meetings and become part of the Rome writing community.
