Rome Area Writers is a without-profit, volunteer association in Rome, Georgia, organized with the purpose of encouraging and assisting members with their writing interests. The members are a divers group in age, education, and even aims in writing. Some writer publication, personal needs, or pleasure.
Rome Area Writers began in 1999 with the vision of Dr. James T. (Thad) Matheny an some friends who wished to continued with a writing group after the completion of a class they were taking at Berry Senior College. Under the leadership of Dr. Matheny and with Dr. Ralph Helser as first president, the group grew and developed into the viable, working organization it is today.
Rome Area Writers is affiliated with Rome Area Council for the Arts (RACA) and with the Georgia Writers Association.
Rome Area Writers issues an annual publication, Lavender Mountain Anthology, a collection of works by members. Several members have also self-published books of their own.
Rome Area Writers meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month from 6:00-8:00PM at the Rome/Floyd Library.
