June/July: Writing Prompts and other Notes

Writing Prompts for our June 14th/July 12th meetings:

  • The short checkout line beckoned
  • Great balls of fire!

We might not have time for readings in the June meeting. However, July is dedicated to readings.

Just another reminder that anthology submissions are due by July 12th.

June 14 : Collaboration

Our monthly meeting will be June 14th. This month we get two guest speakers: Charlene Ball and Libby Ware. Charlene Ball and Libby Ware are both authors of historical fiction novels and other forms of short craft.

Libby Ware’s southern historical fiction Lum: http://libbywarewriter.com/.

Charlene Ball’s early modern historical fiction DARK LADY: A NOVEL OF EMILIA BASSANO LANYER: http://charleneball.com/.

Their topic will be collaboration. Come hang out with us at the Rome Library, 6-8PM, on Thursday, June 14th. If time allows, there will be readings. Bring something if you would like to participate. The public is welcome.

Anthology submissions are due by July 12.

Next year RAW is having its 20th anniversary. Stay tuned for more.

RAW Elects Officers

The Rome Area Writers membership is happy to announce a new slate of officers for 2018. They are excited to get work by bringing in visiting authors, getting members involved with writing events, and collaborating with the Rome Art Coterie.
  • Dekie Hicks, President
  • John Franclemont, Vice President
  • Jason Lowrey, Secretary
  • Emily Farmer, Treasurer

We want to thank Paul Moses and Merrill Davis, who served as president and secretary during 2017, for their leadership and continued support. Everyone is dedicated to our group’s mission, “Writers helping writers,” and we are happy to hear any ideas for events, exercises, or community involvement you may have.

RAW meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month from 6:00-8:00PM at the Rome/Floyd Library. Come join us.

March Meeting is Tonight

We are having our March meeting tonight at the regular location. We are also having refreshments for this meeting. Come and mingle with the members of your local Rome Area Writers tonight and listen to some flash fiction.
